Origin: Phenoxyethanol is produced by the hydroxyethylation of phenol in the presence of alkali-metal hydroxides or alkali-metal borohydrides. Sorbic acid is produced synthetically by aldol condensation of acetaldehyde to form crotonaldehyde which is then reacted with ketene to form.
